It was a great day for a race!

About 10-15 knots of wind predicted which kept everyone on their toes the first day out, with the threat of looming storms in the late afternoon. But the race was shortened on he last mark when dark skies rolled over.

Island Lark took the first gun of the season!

Another great day, with plenty of wind (15-20knots predicted.) Back to Back races were scheduled but after 3 canoes capsized they ended up being a break between. There was also a threat of thunderstorms to come through late in the afternoon!

Island Blossom got the gun for the second race!

Both Island Bird and Persistence capsized before the start of the race which scored them both a DNS, and the Spirit of WyeTowne was unable to race due to a broken rudder. Magic ended up capsizing toward the end of the race and also put her out for the second race as well.

Carl Greibel accepts for Island Lark, the John E. Baybutt perpetual trophy for being the overall winner of the 4th July series. This trophy was donated by Louis and Betsy Jallade in the memory of Betsy Jallade's father Dr. John Baybutt (my Grandfather.) He was a big part of the MRYC and Log Canoe racing, also member to many local clubs/groups (MRYC, CBYC, Chesapeake Bay Log Canoe Racing, Historical Society ect.) as well as being chief of Pediatrics at Easton Memorial Hospital from approx. 1948-1968. In his memory a silver pitcher was dedicated and presented to each overall winner of the 4th July racing series.

It was definitely a rough weekend for most, I know I'm still recovering (those boards hurt somethin' fierce)! But all in all it was a great was to start the season and get everyone back into the swing of things! It was also awesome to see Spirit of WyeTowne back out racing again, always good to see more canoes out as well as Noddy is set to compete the season! I'm and looking forward to seeing all these canoes competing together again, it really honors the fine history of these boats to keep them in competition and for everyone to see how truly unique and amazing Log Canoes really are.

This pretty much sums up my weekend experience perfectly...

Now that\'s what I\'m Talkin\' about!

"Now That's What I'm Talkin' About!"

Special thanks to Jeannie Wilson (Miss Jeannie) for all of her help and support! Also for providing the race results to me!
